SUMMARY:Non ce lo chiede l’Europa
DESCRIPTION:Libertà e indipendenza dell’informazione sono sempre più a rischio a causa di querele temerarie e risarcimento danni intimidatorie\, nonché di un numero crescente di norme – a partire dal decreto presunzione di innocenza\, per arrivare al divieto di pubblicazione delle ordinanze di custodia cautelare – che limitano fortemente la possibilità dei cittadini di essere compiutamente informati\, in particolare nei casi in cui le notizie riguardino persone importanti\, politici\, potenti di ogni sorta. \nI giornalisti denunciano da tempo la preoccupante situazione e il Consiglio nazionale dell’Ordine dei giornalisti ha realizzato un ebook per elencare le principali criticità ed elencare tutte le iniziative messe in campo negli ultimi anni. \nLe stesse preoccupazioni sono riportate dalla Commissione europea nella Relazione sullo Stato di diritto\, a conferma che quanto denunciato dai giornalisti è condiviso dalla più importante istituzione a livello europeo\, la quale sollecita interventi adeguati da parte dell’Italia per garantire una adeguata difesa dalle cosiddette SLAPP (le iniziative legali finalizzate ad imbavagliare la libertà di informazione ed espressione); per riformare le norme sulla diffamazione abolendo la pena detentiva\, ma senza introdurre sanzioni economiche spropositate (che avrebbero l’effetto di limitare l’informazione); per garantire libertà e autonomia al servizio pubblico radiotelevisivo\, e assicurare la massima trasparenza della ripartizione dei contributi e della pubblicità pubblici. \nÈ necessario informare l’opinione pubblica su quanto sta accadendo\, attraverso una serie di norme\, che poco alla volta\, riducono la possibilità dei cittadini di essere compiutamente informati. \nIntervengono:\n– Carlo Bartoli\, presidente del Consiglio nazionale dell’Ordine dei giornalisti\n– Beppe Giulietti\, coordinatore dell’Associazione Articolo 21\n– Diego Neri\, Sindacato dei giornalisti del Veneto\n– Marina Castellaneta\, docente dell’Università di Bari\, esperta in diritto internazionale e diritto dell’informazione\n– Giancarlo Buonocore\, già Avvocato generale di Venezia\n– Dimitri Bettoni\, redattore e ricercatore di Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa \nIntroduce Gianluca Amadori\, coordinatore del Gruppo Informazione e Giustizia del Cnog. \nINFO:\nArticolo 21\nweb: https://www.articolo21.org

SUMMARY:Roundtable on Media Freedom and Safety of Journalists in Albania
DESCRIPTION:In efforts to step up multi-stakeholder discussions and actions for advancing media freedom and journalists’ safety in Albania\, SCiDEV\, in collaboration with BIRN Albania  \, Qendra Faktoje  \, and the Italian think tank OBC Transeuropa   are organising a joint roundtable on “Media Freedom in Albania and Safety of Journalists in Albania: Perceptions\, Progress\, and Collaborative Discussion” \n\n\nTaking place on June 27\, 2024\, starting from 10:00 am\, at Rogner Hotel Tirana\, this event seeks to enhance collaboration between local media\, CSOs\, academia\, and journalists to promote media freedom in Albania. \nThroughout the discussions\, SCiDEV and partners from the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Albania (BIRN Albania) and Qendra Faktoje will share their findings from a preliminary research work carried out within the three-year project “Strengthening Media Freedom\, Professionalism\, and Journalists’ Safety in Albania.”   Over its course\, the project will produce three annual reports to monitor Albania’s progress concerning EU recommendations on freedom of expression\, journalists’ safety\, and media freedom.  This project is implemented by the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Albania (BIRN Albania)\, in cooperation with the Center Science for Innovation Development (SCiDEV) and Qendra Faktoje. It is funded through the EU Call: “Civil Society Facility and Media Programme 2022 and Thematic Programme for Human Rights and Democracy 2022-2023” (Ref.
